Why is SEO important for ecommerce?
You’re busy, tired, & just trying to keep up with the pace of business. So why on Earth should you even consider adding SEO on to your overflowing plate of to-dos?
Because SEO can do so much for you!
- Drive warm-to-hot traffic (customers) to your website
- Increase conversions (because the traffic is more primed to buy)
- …which increases your income 💰
- Open doors for opportunities (like having a product featured)
- Nurture your audience (because sometimes people need to get to know you before buying)
- Increase time spent on your website (that tells Google to pay attention!)
It takes some time to get things set up at the beginning. But—it’s all worth it when you start to see more traffic, more sales, & more positive reviews popping up online!
How to improve SEO ranking
There are 3 keys to improving your website’s SEO.
- Find & Fix Errors
This can be done with an SEO Audit. (HeyTony has a great SEO Audit Tool that’s free & easy to understand!) By taking the time to improve your site’s SEO, you improve the user experience (UX) & people want to stick around longer!
Note from Happyland: Here at Happyland we use Keysearch to manage and track our own SEO rankings, targeted keywords, and perform regular audits. Use our affiliate link to receive 20% off your subscription!)
- Get Backlinks
Activities like podcast guesting & guest blogging (like this 😉) send links from another site to your site. That is a backlink! And backlinks tell search engines like Google that you are a trusted retailer! - Create Content
Don’t let your mind wander to Instagram—yes that can be helpful, but I’m talking about blog posts. And one really smart & strategic type of blog post to share frequently (at least once a quarter, if not once a month) are case studies!

What is an SEO case study?
Case studies are blogs that allow you to share a FULL customer experience.
By adding an SEO strategy to your case study, that blog can go out and market for you & your business.
And you’re already crafting the customer story, so why not optimize it so it can get your products featured in more places—and drive more of that warm-to-hot traffic to your site? Grab the SEO Checklist
Why share ecommerce case studies?
There are a variety of reasons it would be beneficial for you to write & share case studies featuring your ecommerce business!
Here are just a few examples:
- Your product is best understood when demonstrated
- You have an extremely innovative product
- You create keepsakes for sentimental life events
An added bonus?
Case studies are the perfect marketing tool for introverts! Just saying…
SEO case study template to follow
When crafting a compelling & high-converting case study, you want to ensure there’s an easy path for the reader to follow.
Let’s keep 2 common scenarios in mind: 1. A customer feature & 2. A product origin story.

I created my P.E.T. Framework—here’s how it works:
P: Problem
What was the customer experiencing before they found your product? What were they searching for?
Or
What was going on in your business prior to you creating this product? What inspired you to dream this up?
E: Experience
What was the customer experience like? Did they communicate with you to personalize an item? Did something happen during shipping? Was everything smooth sailing?
Or
What was it like creating this new product? Were there any hiccups you ran into?
T: Transformation
What is their life like now that they have your product? Was it a gift? How did the recipient react?
Or
What happened once you launched this product? Have you had any major wins or acknowledgements?
Once you have this structure in place, it’s easy to weave in your target & supportive keywords to optimize the case study for SEO.
You’re ready to rock these case studies for your business! 🎉
Work with an SEO copywriter
If you think case studies sound amazing—but you want nothing to do with writing them, you can always hire an SEO copywriter to craft those case studies for you!
Some of these copywriters (like me) will even do the customer interviews!
